DJ Biz Markie, Atlantic Starr complete lineup for Famously Hot New Year

Artists behind hits such as “Just a Friend” and “Always” to take part in free concert at New Year's Eve event along with Grammy-winning band The Wallflowers and local artists Reggie Sullivan and Terence Young and The Finesse Band

Columbia's Main Street will be rocking this New Year's Eve with a full lineup of musical entertainment. Today, organizers of Famously Hot New Year, the huge street party in downtown Columbia, announced that two more legendary acts—hip-hop's DJ Biz Markie and R&B group Atlantic Starr—are coming to Columbia and will take center stage in front of the Statehouse for FHNY. The new acts join Grammy-winning band The Wallflowers, which previously announced it will perform at Famously Hot New Year.

FHNY is one of the Southeast's biggest New Year's Eve parties, where thousands of revelers will celebrate the arrival of 2013 in downtown Columbia, SC. In addition to the live musical entertainment, attendees will enjoy food and drink, fireworks, a midnight countdown and much more.

FHNY will be held on Columbia's Main Street between Gervais and Lady Streets—right in front of the South Carolina Statehouse. The event will start at 7 p.m. (gates open at 6 p.m.) on December 31, 2012.

The legendary DJ Biz Markie has a fan base that stretches from New York City to Japan to Europe. With work that includes the Billboard Top 10 hit “Just a Friend,” Biz delivers humorous, witty rhymes that make him loveable and admired by music fans all over. He currently deejays in club and concert venues all over the world. Biz's television credits include VH1′s “Celebrity Fit Club,” “Nick Cannons “Wild N Out” on MTV, and recently, Nick Jr's “Yo Gabba Gabba” doing the beat box of the day. Fresh off the “Yo Gabba Gabba” national tour, Biz has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

The sound of established hit makers Atlantic Starr features powerhouse harmonics and potent lead vocals soaring over dynamic, soulful rhythmic tracks. Known for hits such as "Always" and "Secret Lovers," their trademark ballads have made Atlantic Starr a musical force. The group still delivers ballads, but has now added dance-oriented music to their repertoire, which will please the ears of newcomers and long-time fans alike. Their latest single is "My Best Friend." The group is made up of original members Wayne Lewis and Jonathan Lewis, along with Melessa Pierce and L' john Epps.

Also appearing at FHNY will be Reggie Sullivan, one of the most-requested musicians in Columbia. He has performed with musical legends such as Marian McPartland, Olivia Newton-John, Wycliffe Gordon, Herlin Riley, Chris Potter, Howard Hewitt, Randy Crawford, Joe Sample, and the Jazz Crusaders. In May 2012, Reggie released his first solo album, “Together," a collection of twelve original songs. You can find him working worldwide as a freelance bassist or regionally with the Reggie Sullivan Band. His band members are Nick Brewer, Zach Bingham, Brendan Bull and Jmichael Peeples.

Terence Young and The Finesse Band will also be performing on New Year's Eve. The group boasts some of the best musicians in the Carolinas: band leader and guitarist Terence Young, lead vocalist Eric Mayweather, pianist Byron Counts and bassman Sam Jenkins combine their smooth styles of Motown, jazz, and R&B soul perfectly. The Columbia-based group has shared the stage with legendary groups The Temptations, Ashford and Simpson, The Ojays, and others. A favorite at wedding receptions and corporate functions for their talent and energy, you don't want to miss a chance to see Terence Young and the Finesse Band!

As previously announced, The Wallflowers will also be performing at FHNY. The band has just released its sixth album after a seven-year hiatus, Glad All Over, featuring the single that's already getting significant radio airplay nationwide, “Reboot the Mission.” That song was inspired by The Clash and features the band's Mick Jones on vocals and guitar. Front man for The Wallflowers is Jakob Dylan, son of rock legend Bob Dylan.

While general admission to the event is free, two levels of ticket upgrades are available:

• Premier tickets ($25 until December 16, 2012, and $30 afterward). Premier ticket holders will have a viewing area that puts them close to the action along with a special entrance that will allow them to skip the crowds at the General Admission gates.
