The Wallflowers to headline Famously Hot New Year party in Columbia

Group known for hits like “One Headlight,” led by frontman and rock royalty Jakob Dylan, will perform free concert on Columbia's Main Street to ring in 2013
Last year, revelers from across the country converged on South Carolina's capital city of Columbia for a huge street party to celebrate the arrival of 2012. This year, FAMOUSLY HOT NEW YEAR (FHNY) promises to be even bigger and better.
The headlining band for the New Year's Eve event is The Wallflowers, which has just released its sixth album after a seven-year hiatus, Glad All Over, featuring the single that's already getting significant radio airplay nationwide, “Reboot the Mission.” That song was inspired by The Clash and features the band's Mick Jones on vocals and guitar.
Brian Fallon, lead singer of The Gaslight Anthem, says this of Glad All Over: "(The album) sounds like a group of 21 year-olds ready to set the world on fire, but with the wisdom of a veteran band that knows how to let just the right amount burn.”
The Wallflowers formed in 1989, released its self-titled debut album in 1992, and then skyrocketed to fame with 1996's Bringing Down the Horse, which included the hits “One Headlight” and “6th Avenue Heartache.” The album went quadruple platinum, won two Grammys, and was praised by everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Tom Petty.
The group released three more records between 2000 and 2005, including radio smashes like "Murder 101," a duet with Elvis Costello, "Sleepwalker," and "Here He Comes."
The current Wallflowers lineup includes original members Rami Jaffee (keyboardist), Greg Richling (bass), and Jakob Dylan, son of Bob Dylan, along with longtime guitarist Stuart Mathis and new drummer Jack Irons.
The Wallflowers will put on a concert that is free and open to the public as part of this year's FHNY event, at which thousands of partiers will enjoy food and drink, fireworks, a midnight countdown and much more, in addition to the live musical entertainment.
FHNY will be held on Columbia's Main Street between Gervais and Lady Streets—right in front of the South Carolina Statehouse. Gates will be open from 7 p.m. on December 31 until 1:30 a.m. on January 1, 2013. Live music will begin at 8 p.m.
While general admission to the event and concert are free, three levels of ticket upgrades are available:
* Premier tickets ($25 until December 1, 2012, and $30 afterward). Premier ticket holders will have a viewing area that puts them close to the action along with a special entrance that will allow them to skip the crowds at the General Admission gates. They will also have access to separate vendors.
* Crescent Lounge tickets ($100 until December 1, 2012, and $125 afterward). Crescent Lounge ticket holders will enjoy perks including an indoor lounge, open bar, hors d'oeuvres, and reserved indoor parking adjacent to the event, along with full access to the Premier and General Admission areas.
* Palmetto Penthouse tickets ($250 for individuals and $400 for couples; no price change after December 1). Palmetto Penthouse ticket holders will receive red-carpet treatment, a spectacular view of the event area, top-shelf open bar, fancy hors d'oeuvres, reserved indoor parking adjacent to the event, along with full access to the Crescent Lounge, Premier, and General Admission areas.
The event will be covered live on co-sponsor WIS News 10 television, beginning with the 11 p.m. newscast on New Year's Eve.
FAMOUSLY HOT NEW YEAR 2013 promises to be festive, fun, and safe—don't miss this must-attend holiday event!
